Printing Services
We work directly with a small handful of Island Print Shops and Printers. We often have customers looking to have photos enlarged and printed on art papers, canvas or metal. We can provide you a rough estimate based on the size you are looking for. We ask that files be emailed to us so we can forward them to the printer. The Printer will need to know the pixel dimensions to see what the maximum size they can reprint the images before loss of resolution. They can recommend the best size to print at based on the quality of the image and can also provide image enhancement services as needed. Once printed, customers can pick up finished products at the Gallery. Please ask us for more details and pricing. Turn around time is usually 3-4 weeks. (For customers looking for basic reprints on photo paper, we can provide this also).
Limited Edition Prints, Open Editions & Original art
Currently, many of the artworks on display at the Yellow Bird Arts Gallery are Giclee canvas prints by Vancouver Island artists. We pride ourselves on our variety of art and artists we collaborate with. We tend to focus mainly on West Coast themes including a large selection of work by Indigenous artists. Because of our limited space only a small portion of our available art is on the wall at one time. we also have a large collection of secondary market prints, both signed and numbered uncirculated Limited Edition prints, as well as Open Edition prints and posters. If there is something you are looking for we may just have something in our inventory.
We can also special order specific art you have in mind. Many of the artists we work with print their own images at various sizes and on various materials. On our Featured Artist page a comprehensive list of artists with websites are provided. Please feel free to ask us and we will be happy to connect with the artists directly on your behalf.
Consignment & Appraisals
Consignment
We often receive questions about whether we will sell customer art on consignment. Although we do from time to time take some things on consignment, due to limited space we are quite particular about what we can potentially carry. Customers are welcome to email clear photos of the front and back of the artwork they have. The condition of the art will be measured on fading evidence, frame type and style and resalable demand. Originals, Limited Edition prints with west coast or Indigenous imagery is usually preferred. Our consignment terms will be provided and if agreed upon, artwork can be displayed in 3 month segments.
Appraisals
How much is my Limited Edition __ fill in the blank__ worth? Art is a tricky thing to value. We often say that it is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. The 1990’s was a heyday for the wildlife art scene. Unfortunately, much of this art has not retained even a remote amount of its original value.
Although we are not certified appraisers and do not provide a formalized service, we can offer a general idea of what the market situation may be currently. We check a few specific sites online such as Canadian auction houses, collector sites, and other Industry colleagues. We generally suggest if customers are looking to sell their art, to do a thorough online search and try local online classified and marketplace websites. We realize not all our customers are tech savvy, so we can at times provide some feedback usually free of charge (if something significant or numerous, we may charge a small cost to cover our time).
For customers looking for a formal appraisal, e.g. for insurance purposes, we highly recommend connecting with an Art Appraiser. Victoria or Vancouver would be the probable places to start.
